Abstract
Rafael Martínez Pupo was a successful business man in Cuba who lost all of his enterprises and belongings when Fidel Castro nationalized private property in 1959. He went into exile to Guatemala. In 1963, the CIA recruited Martínez Pupo to lead a special operations unit of Cuban exiles whose mission was to sabotage strategic targets in Cuba. This unit was known as Comandos Mambises.
