Correspondence - Ted Shawn (sent to R. St. Denis). Miscellaneous notes (1922 - 24) to Ruth St. Denis from husband and business partner Ted Shawn including a "night letter" ("You have been divinely appointed to give the world beauty for ashes - your vision of the spirituality of art is your message and being of God it cannot fail - My thought is with you all day loving, confident and proud. I am at your feet - Love and gratitude to Albert. Ted") sent c/o Albert Bender (who arranged a Ruth St. Denis performance at the San Francisco Civic Auditorium on January 14th, 1922). A second note (c. 1924) sent "To Ruth St. Denis, High Priestess of the Dance..." includes a quote which , according to Ted Shawn (in January 1969) was printed in his April 1924 Carnegie Hall program ("Who is my greatest inspiration as an artist - Who has been big enough to let me grow in my own way - Who has been loving enough to always help me when I needed help - Who is my beloved wife, my loyal comrade, my patient guru - To her, this night I offer my undying gratitude. Ted Shawn")
