Biographical Ephemera. Miscellaneous biographical ephemera pertaining to the private life and professional career of John Christian - aka John Christian Ammann - (dancer, actor, domestic partner of Ted Shawn and Executive Director of the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival) including miscellaneous newspaper and magazine clippings, miscellaneous grade school, high school and college ephemera, a letter (December 8, 1969) from Ted Shawn (discussing his health) sent to Mrs. Helen Willett Ammann (John Christian's mother), miscellaneous family photographs and letters, miscellaneous letters (November/December 1957) from Peter A. Brandon (aka Matthias Corwin Amman - older brother of John Christian - President of "Mr. John" hat design company in NYC) sent to John Christian (critical of John Christian's personal and professional relationship with Ted Shawn: "...You are not being employed, you are being used...Every broken down thespian has closets full of yellowing scrapbooks pasted full of glowing press notices calling him the greatest ever...but remember the main issue, you can't eat the whirling dervish's...press clippings..."), miscellaneous photographs and ephemera pertaining to Peter A. Brandon (brother of John Christian), an inscribed/ signed (in green ink by dancers Lucille Ellis, Lenwood Morris, Lawaune Ingram, Richardena Jackson, Ora Lee and Gloria Mitchell) program page, etc. According to his New York Times obituary (April 30, 1982): "Born John Christian Ammann in Riverhead, L.I., in 1921, Mr. Christian attended the University of Wisconsin and studied dance with Nenette Charisse. A longtime associate of the late Ted Shawn, founder of the festival and a leading figure in early American modern dance, Mr. Christian had served as stage manager for Mr. Shawn's solo tour in 1948 and was subsequently invited to supervise sets, costumes and lighting at the festival. He also worked with Mr. Shawn on auditioning performers, organizing the festival schedule and acting as administrator and host for the festival."
