Jacob's Pillow School of Dance. Miscellaneous promotional brochures, heralds, booklets, letters and photographs pertaining to the Jacob's Pillow School of Dance (aka "University of the Dance" and the "Shawn School of Dance for Men"). According to a 1938 brochure: "While major emphasis of the course will be dancing, there will be supplementary but related activities. The curriculum will include fundamental and advanced techniques, classes in eurhythmics, complete dances, supervised practice hours, and lectures on various phases and problems of the dance. There is a daily period when Mr. Shawn talks or reads followed by an informal discussion of that subject. There are evenings devoted to the showing of Mr. Shawn's moving pictures of dancing in all parts of the world. During the summer there will be opportunities for the students to watch rehearsals and creative hours of the concert group. Each week Mr. Shawn and the group give a Lecture-Demonstration which may be attended by the students..."
