Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

Subseries P14a contains correspondence, reports, notes, and other documents types from the administrative files of President J. Wayne Reitz. The subseries begins with documents related to the lengthy presidential search that culminated in Reitz's selection and appointment and ends with documents related to his resignation in 1967. Otherwise, the files are arranged alphabetically by subject. In addition to extensive files on the development of each college, the subseries provides documentation on matters related to alumni affairs and relations with the Florida Legislature and the Board of Regents as well as evidence of the principle issues and controversies of his presidency. The latter includes files on racial integration, academic freedom, football controversies, and the early stages of student protest in the 1960s.
