Shashe Silk

 Series

Scope and Contents

Primarily dating from the mid-1980s through the late 1990s, these files document Parker's involvement with the silk industry in Botswana. Parker was a member of the board of directors for Shashe Silk Ltd. (formerly B.G.I. Sin-Dee Silk Ltd.), and these files cover all aspects of the firm's activities. The majority of the files pertain to research into the production of Gonometa silk as a major export product, and to the development of the firm's operations. Also included are financial statements, meeting minutes, business memoranda, and consultant reports, including some produced by Parker. In addition to the files, there are also a small sample of Gonometa cocoons, silk, knitted products, etc. Photos found with these files have been separated and stored in the Photographs and Audiovisual group. A board presenting samples of Mopani Silk is stored with Oversize Materials in Box 46. Also, there are general correspondence files pertaining to BGI (Botswana Game Industries) found with the Correspondence and Subject Files.
