The Melvin and Pauline Valk Papers houses the personal and professional papers of Melvin E Valk. This collection, which dates from 1825 to 2012 (Bulk dates 1911-2012), consists of the Valk’s personal and professional correspondence (1937-2002), academic writings on German language and literature (literary translations appear to have been done by Melvin and Pauline) (1937-1976), research and notes relating to both of their family histories (1825-2012), personal diaries (all written by Pauline including a 1931-1932 diary when she was studying abroad in Germany) (1929-1996), a large collection of postcards (1929-1974), photographs of Melvin and many of his family members (including photographs of Melvin's cousin Edgar and his wife Margaret. Including a photograph of Melvin and Egar in uniform while they were in England during WW2.) (1911-1987), and professional documents that relate to Melvin’s work as a professor and a researcher for the Office of War Information (1945-1975).
