"La Educación de las Domésticas: Una Agudización de la Lucha de Clases" is a sixteen page manuscript written by Elena Gil Izquierdo circa 1970. The manuscript presents a summary of the work and achievements of the government organization, Federación de Mujeres Cubanas. The organization was part of the Cuban Revolution platform, and its main objective was to support mass education of women, their incorporation into the work force, and legislation and social reform for gender equality. A translation in English of the manuscript and two drafts of this translation are also included in the folder.

Biographical / Historical

Born in Mérida, Spain, Elena Gil Izquierdo (1906-1985) was a Cuban feminist and self-taught journalist. She was a member of the Federación de Mujeres Cubanas (Federation of Cuban Women), an organization established by the government of Fidel Castro to pursue the education of women in rural areas and elevate the standing of women as a valuable member of society and the workforce.
