Tramontano Lake View Park
Scope and Contents note
Series 11 consists primarily of photographs pulled from other series in the first accession. The file numbers on the folders identify where the photographs were originally found. A few photographs were found separate from the file records and there are photographs from the second accession as well. The photographs depict both the business and family lives of the Chases. There are photographs of packing houses, bunk houses, and groves and fields. The latter depict harvesting and planting operations. One of the earliest photographs is an 1894 image of the Sanford office of Chase and Company. Other photographs show an outing by Black laborers, state fair displays, freeze and hurricane damage, and tung oil groves in Jefferson County. Of particular interest are the photographs of the Tosohatchee game preserve, now the Tosohatchee State Reserve. There are also maps of the preserve in box 228. Among the family photographs are images from the 1892 Everglades expedition taken with an early model Kodak camera. There are portraits of many family members. Included among the papers of Henry Martyn Chase are photographs of Indians and Fort Owen in present day Oregon. The weather related images include several major hurricanes in the 1920s and 1930s as well as freeze damage. All but a few of the photographs came from the first accession. Photographs from the second accession are filed in the last box. Several photographs unrelated to either the Chase family or Chase businesses and depicting general scenes of Florida were removed from the collection and placed in the Florida Photographic Collection.
The series is divided into nine sections. The first eight sections come from the first accession and include: family images, family properties, family trips, City of Sanford photographs, groves, other agricultural properties, Chase and Company operations, and weather-related images. Miscellaneous, unidentified, and second accession photographs appear in the last section.
