Florida History major manuscript collections include the papers of many prominent political and social leaders, as well as the papers of civic, trade and social organizations. Many of the manuscript groups contain business records as well as photographic materials that document the state's agricultural, environmental, military, and social history (the citrus, cattle, and naval stores industries; Seminole Wars; ethnic relations; immigration; etc.). Abstract

William V. Chappell, Jr. served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from Florida's 4th congressional district from 1969 to 1989. He was defeated in his 1988 reelection campaign and died in Bethesda, Maryland on March 30, 1989. This collection documents Chappell's congressional tenure.
