University of Florida Student Organization Files
Scope and Content
Series 146 consists primarily of files on inactive student organizations plus a few folders related to the development of the office of the Adviser to Student Organizations. For the most part, the organization files in this series were created in 1949. At that time, all student organizations were required to submit an application form and, periodically, organization reports. Some pre-1949 records were included for organizations that filed in 1949. A few organizations that disbanded prior to 1949, such as the short-lived Florida chapter of the American Student Union and the Co-Ed Club, are included here. The content of the organization files varies considerably. Some files contain only an application form. Most files contain the application form, several reports, and lists of officers. A few contain other records including publications, constitutions, correspondence with the Assistant Dean, and minutes. The series does not document social fraternities. Current files are maintained in the Program Office of the Reitz Union.
The oldest files are divided into Military, Political, Religious, Regional, and Miscellaneous organizations and then arranged alphabetically. Subsequent files are arranged alphabetically without distinction as to organization type.
