Scope and Content

Contains the administrative records of John S. Allen as acting president after the death of President Miller. It includes correspondence and other records related to the major campus units and general correspondence with regional and national intercollegiate organizations. Also included are Allen's memoranda, both numbered and unnumbered, to faculty and administrators. Of special note are the records related to the genesis of station WUFT-TV and the continuation of the development of the medical programs initiated in the Miller administration.

Biographical/Historical Note

John S. Allen was Vice President of the University of Florida from 1947 to 1957. He served briefly as acting president before the arrival of J. Hillis Miller and served for a longer period after Miller's death in 1953. In 1957, Allen was selected to be first president of the University of South Florida in Tampa.
