University of Florida Office of the President's Files Relating to the Official NCAA Inquiry into Conduct of the Football Team
Scope and Content
Series P20 contains documents compiled for a 1984 NCAA investigation into recruiting violations by the University of Florida football team. The series contains photocopies of documents submitted to the NCAA as well as original files of Presidents Robert Marston and Marshall Criser on the matter. The latter includes compliance records, correspondence from alumni, and records related to a suit filed by the Miami Herald to obtain information through the Public Records Act.
The photocopies are divided into three categories. 1. Exhibits: Documents from the University of Florida Athletic Association, the football coaching staff, and administrative offices of the University. 2. Statements made to attorneys for the University by individuals associated with the violations. 3. Response documents from the University.
Included with the exhibits were thousands of copies of invoices and receipts. These were discarded, and only correspondence and other substantive material were retained. Also removed were registration forms and cancelled checks for a summer football clinic held for high school players.

Access
Access to this series is restricted. Much of the series deals with specific named students and is therefore restricted by Federal law. The compilers of this series blackened out the names of students, but in most cases the names can still be read. To use this collection, sensitive documents must be photocopied again to insure anonymity. Costs for reproduction will be assumed by the researcher.
University Archives collections are available for research. Portions of the collections may be restricted due to the requirements of applicable state and federal laws, including but not limited to FERPA and HIPAA, and in accordance with best practices as defined by the Society of American Archivists.

The collection originally contained multiple copies of most documents. An effort was made to eliminate duplication, but some duplicates probably remain.
