Scope and Content
The materials consist of agendas, minutes, correspondence, memos, and other items from the Inaugural Steering Committee as well as Subcommittees such as the Campus and Community Outreach Subcommittee, the Print and Publicity Subcommittee, or the Inaugural Dinner Subcommittee. In addition there is information about the choosing of the title "Flagship for Discovery" and the academic symposia which were a part of that, various publicity materials such as copies of notices in the student newspaper The Independent Florida Alligator and the local newspaper The Gainesville Sun, diagrams for seating arrangements in the O'Connell Center, guest lists, and much more.

Biographical/Historical Note
The University of Florida Inaugural Steering Committee oversaw all of the planning, organization, and finalization of the activities and events connected with the inauguration of J. Bernard Machen. From October 2003 - March 2004 the official invitations were issued to steering committee members and their work began on or before March 2004. The actual ceremony of induction was known as the "Installation" but all activities and events for the two-day celebration were to be referred to as "Inauguration."
