The collection consists primarily of manuscripts for three unpublished books. Also of interest is a memorandum on agrarian reform in Brazil written in 1952 when Smith served as an advisor to the Brazilian government.

Biographical/Historical Note
T. Lynn Smith was born November 11, 1903, at Sanford, Colorado. He received his education at Brigham Young University (B.A.) and the University of Minnesota (M.A. and Ph. D.). He taught at Louisiana State University and Vanderbilt before coming to the University of Florida in 1949 as a professor of sociology. Smith was particularly interested in rural conditions and agricultural reform and did extensive field work in Mexico, Louisiana, Colombia, and Brazil. He was author or co-author of 17 books and 125 articles. He died March 7, 1976.
