Roland Fountain Hussey Papers
Scope and Content
The papers consist mainly of correspondence with other entomologists from other countries and the United States. His notes from Paraguay (1931-32) are in a folder and there are two folders with materials regarding his application and acceptance of grants to the National Science Foundation (NSF). There are also four field notebooks documenting his studies in the United States, Brazil, and Paraguay. Roland F. Hussey studied Hemiptera, an order containing 35,000 species. It means "half wing" in which the first part of the first pair of wings is hardened and the rest of the first pair of wings and the second pair of wings are membrane like. Dr. Hussey wrote about fifty articles many of which were on the subject of Hemiptera.
