Biographical/Historical Note
Frank Bradshaw Wood was born on December 21, 1915 in Jackson, Tennessee. He received his bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Florida in 1936, and completed master's and doctoral degrees at Princeton University in 1940 and 1941 respectively. Dr. Wood served active duty in the United States Naval Reserve between June 1941 and January 1946, at which point he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He proceeded to teach at the University of Arizona, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Florida. He primarily researched interacting binary stars, creating a substantial collection of published works on this topic and others. He was active in a number of scientific organizations, often assuming the role of committee member or officer. Dr. Wood passed away on December 20, 1997 in Gainesville, FL.
