Karl Richardson Bardin Photograph Album
Scope and Content
The album depicts Bardin's time at the University of Florida, his time with the National Guard, outings with family and friends, and family events. Of particular interest are images of an encampment at Camp Foster, which is now Jacksonville NAS, an outing in north Florida that includes images of the Live Oak, Perry & Gulf Railroad, and family trips to Lake Waccamaw in North Carolina. Photographs are often identified and dated, but the dates are sometimes incorrect. The album also includes nine panoramic photographs of Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach (sometimes Pablo Beach) in the mid-1920s. Seven are identified as being from a photographer named DeGroot.

Biographical/Historical Note
Karl Richardson Bardin was born in Fair Bluff, North Carolina, in 1886, and moved to Florida early in his life. He entered the Florida Agricultural College in academic year 1901-02 in a senior preparatory class. His hometown was listed as Fort White. Bardin was still enrolled when the college was renamed the University of Florida in 1903, but did not graduate. Instead, he received an appointment to West Point and enrolled there. Bardin served as a National Guard officer in Florida and was assigned to a company from Live Oak. In World War I, Bardin was a company commander in the 371st Infantry, an African-American regiment assigned to the French army. Bardin moved to Jacksonville in 1910 and worked in real estate. He married Marguerite Hobson Drew in 1933 and died in 1968.
