Records of the University of Florida Chapter of the American Association of University Professors
Scope and Content
The breadth of this collection renders the AAUP materials a valuable resource to the researcher interested in the dynamics of faculty-university relations. A significant portion of the files contain materials relating to the various committees within AAUP-Florida. These files provide information about the priorities of the organization. In the committee forum, members dealt with both emerging social issues (such as racial and sexual equality) and perennial concerns, notably academic freedom and tenure. Among the more interesting of the non-committee files is the folder entitled "desegregation" which pertains to the debate over whether or not to enroll Black students in the 1950s.
Materials are arranged alphabetically by subject. Box 21 of this collection contains files documenting faculty evaluations and grievances. These files are restricted at the request of the Chapter. Please consult with the archivist if any questions should arise regarding this issue. An effort has been made to remove this type of material from the general subject files. The researcher is requested to bring any such material found in the general files to the attention of the archivist.
