Interview with Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and Her Maid Martha Mickens
Scope and Content
The recording is not in a standard interview format. A man's voice is heard at intervals but he is never identified. Martha Mickens, Rawlings' maid, sings four spirituals and then gives a prayer. Rawlings and Mickens talk briefly about how Mickens came to help out and then Mickens sings three more spirituals. Rawlings then recites a sonnet she composed, "Having Left Cities Behind Me", and a poem titled "Mountain Rain".
