Scope and Content

The collection includes Julien C. Yonge's personal correspondence and information about his collection of Florida materials. Among his correspondents were: Rembert Patrick, Mark Boyd, David O. True, Ruby Leach Carson, Father Jerome, T. Frederick Davis, and Webster Merritt. A great deal of the correspondence pertains to Florida history, to his collection, and to the Florida Historical Society.

Biographical/Historical Note

Historian Julien Chandler Yonge was editor of the Florida Historical Quarterly, 1925-1955, and Director of the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History, 1944-1958. He was born and educated in Pensacola, Florida. Poor health prevented completion of his college degree. He collected Florida history materials and became a leader in the Florida Historical Society. His collection was eventually donated to the University of Florida, becoming the nucleus of the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History.
