Smathers Libraries, University of Florida / John David Ridge Collection / Halston Enterprises, 1984-1991 / Miscellaneous Media: VHS/DVD/Audio Cassette / "BACKSTAGE - COSTUMES FOR THE STAGE BY JOHN DAVID RIDGE" (1988): Two Video Home System (VHS) tape recordings of the 1988 University of Florida/University Libraries/Department of Special Collections (Gainesville, Florida) exhibit, showcasing the professional costuming work of collection donor JOHN DAVID RIDGE, in the Grinter Galleries on the UF campus. Also, a 1988 audio cassette recording of JOHN DAVID RIDGE'S UF Theatre Department class presentation (part of the exhibit opening activities) in the Department of Special Collections. In 1988, JOHN DAVID RIDGE, while working at Halston Enterprises, in New York City, donated his initial collection of papers and costume ephemera to the University of Florida. He has since added more material to the collection, and the combined gifts, are represented and described in this finding guide. The first donation (1988) was the result of the friendship between Margaret Ridge (Mother of JOHN DAVID RIDGE & the University of Florida Libraries Slavic Language Librarian/Cataloguer in Smathers Library - at the time Library East) and the curator of the Belknap Performing arts Collection. Dr. John Drew Ridge (Father of JOHN DAVID RIDGE) was the Head of the University of Florida Geology Department (c. late 1960 - early 1970s).

In 1984 JOHN DAVID RIDGE became a Design Associate to Halston, remaining there until 1990, eventually serving as Vice President and Design Director of Halston.
