Biographical/Historical Note
Born in Argentina, Albert J. Socol studied architecture, obtaining a Masters in Architecture with honors in 1965 at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), and worked as a Professor in its school of Architecture from 1966 to 1971.
In 1972 he moved to the United States to pursue a career in architecture. He worked for over 35 years on the design, development, management, and construction of major architectural projects in the State of Florida including the School of Architecture at the University of Florida, the James L. Knight Center, the Hyatt Hotel, Royal Bank of Canada, and the Courthouse Center in Miami, FL. He has also won several awards for his work, including the City Beautiful Award for his work in Coral Gables, FL; Outstanding Concrete Structure for the UF School of Architecture in Gainesville, FL; and the BOMA Award for best downtown high-rise building in Miami, FL.
Currently Socol is the Executive Vice President of WS Architecture and Planning, Inc. and he was named AIA NCARB Chair of the Committee of College of Design, Construction and Planning to help coordinate the addition to the UF College of Architecture.
