Scope and Content

The collection is arranged in five series in alphabetical order.

Series 1: Subject files - contains topics related to the military, tourism, worker’s organizations, a board game, Cuban pesos, and politics.

Series 2: Photographs - includes photographs related to the 26th of July Movement, Fidel Castro, the military, San Isidro Bridge, police officers, politicians, and Fidel Castro supporters. It also contains two photo albums: "Colegio Para Niñas Romualdo de la Cuesta" and "Álbum Expedicionarios Granma". The "Colegio Para Niñas Romualdo de la Cuesta", was an all-girls school in the central district of Havana, Cuba, during the early 1930s. The photographs, most of which are captioned, depict the individual students, interiors and exteriors of the school, the art room, restrooms, a party attended by both students and teachers, class pictures, and a school field trip. The “Álbum Expedicionarios Granma”, documents the 81 people who took part in the journey from Tuxpan, Mexico, to the east coast of Cuba in November, 1956. It includes a portrait of each of the participants, including Fidel and Raúl Castro, Ernesto "Che" Guevara, Camilo Cienfuegos, and others.

Series 3: Newsletters - contains three newsletters about Cuban economy, the presidential palace, and the First Inter-American Conference.

Series 4: Brochures, flyers, and pamphlets - contains topics related to communist Cuba, military service, a jockey racing club, and the Venceremos Brigade.

Series 5: Books and Booklets - contains topics about Antonio Maceo, Stalinism in Cuba, Christopher Columbus, and views of Cuba.

Series 6: Posters - contains posters related to twentieth-century Cuba.
