Anthology of poetry from the 19th century

 Collection
Identifier: MSS 0542

Scope and Content

The creator of this anthology does not leave much information about him/herself. The only clues leading to the creator’s identity are three sets of initials. The book also includes a dedication with a date (12/08/1879) and a location (Havana). Most of the poems are from the 19th century. According to the dates included in the anthology, many of the poets whose poems are featured in the collection were still alive when the creator transcribed their poems.

The anthology is formed of 25 poems which pertain primarily to romantic and religious themes. The poets included in this collection were of various origins; most of them were from Cuba, Mexico, and Spain. A table of contents, which is not fully accurate, can be found at the end of the book; it leaves out some poems included in the book and includes titles of poems that are not found within the collection.
