Interview with César Romero on El Show de Paul Rodríguez

 Collection
Identifier: MSS 0339

Scope and Content

The collection includes the filmed interview that Rodríguez conducted with Romero in the 1990s (including transcript) and a news clipping with his obituary. El Show de Paul Rodríguez was the first nationally aired, bilingual talk and sketch-comedy show, produced by Univisión from 1990 to 1994. The show was hosted by established Mexican-American comedian Paul Rodríguez. Both sketches and interviews, spoken alternatingly between English and Spanish, were translated to the audience depending on the guest. During the interview, Romero and Rodríguez discussed his career as an actor and the relationship of his mother María Mantilla de Romero with her supposed father José Martí. They discussed Mantilla's birth in relation to Martí's exile, his education of Mantilla, Martí's shackles, and the letters that he sent to Mantilla, which she donated to the Cuban Government in 1953.
