Biographical/Historical Note

David Lawrence Niddrie was born on July 18, 1917 and died August 24, 1997. He married Mary K. Leiper in 1945 and they had one daughter named Patricia.

In the 1930s he joined Natal University College in South Africa as a lecturer in Geography. During World War II Niddrie served in the South African Naval Forces (Voluntary) as a sub-lieutenant. In 1950, he worked at the University of Manchester in Great Britain, and from 1961 to 1966 he worked as a visiting professor at Southern Illinois University and taught summer classes at the University of Puerto Rico. In 1966, Niddrie worked as a professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Florida and retired in 1988.

Acquisition Information

The collection was originally donated to the University of Wyoming by David L. Niddrie in 1991 and it was transferred later by the University of Wyoming to the University of Florida.
