Biographical/Historical Note

In 1985 the Florida Legislature passed the Visions for the Future of Gainesville and Alachua County Act of 1985 (House Bill 1408). The act created the Visions 2000 for Alachua County and Gainesville Committee to review and develop strategies and policies for possible future visions for growth and development in Alachua County. The committee invited various representative members of the county to attend two separate conferences held in Howey-In-The-Hills, Central Florida on January 9-12, 1986 and March 27-29, 1987 to review data and reports about Alachua County and develop policies and strategies for future growth management. The focus primarily was on economic development, growth alternatives, quality of life, and governmental relations, transportation, the needs of rural citizens.
