Biographical/Historical Note

During a Board of Regents meeting, Chairman Joan Ruffier called on the State University System "to identify those moral values we wish our academic community to reflect." She asked that each University in the SUS set up a task force to convey to students a "campus standard of conduct," so that each student entering an SUS university will be aware of the institution's values and the kind of behavior which is expected.

The charge of the Task Force on Moral Values at the University of Florida was: 1) to articulate a standard of conduct for students and; 2) to devise ways that this standard can be shared with and disseminated to students. The Task Force met from July 1988-January 1989 to devise this standard of conduct.
