Latinos in the U.S. Zine Collection
Scope and Content
The Latinos in the U.S. Zines Collection was published between 2012 and 2023, including a reprint from a 1999 zine. Many of the works push back against the Trump administration’s strict immigration policy reform and revival of fallacious Latino stereotypes in the public consciousness. In the face of this discrimination, the zines show the daily lives and experiences of Latin American immigrants in the U.S., their multifaceted struggles, and the nuances of identity and culture within the community.

Biographical/Historical Note
Though the term "zines" first surfaced around 1940 in the sci-fi community, zines in various forms have served as a platform to express the ideas and opinions of marginalized voices long before that. These publications reflect the zeitgeist of a place, showing the cultural, political, and economic dynamics that individuals and communities experience, but that often remain unrepresented in mainstream literature and the media. They can also be important forms of artistic expressions and explore the frontiers of identity and subculture.
