Estelle Aden Theater Teaching Collection
Scope and Content
Performing Arts research collection comprising materials collected by Professor Estelle Aden related to her own research and for theater classes she taught with materials on artists, entertainers, writers, and playwrights. The collection includes handwritten notes, index cards and essays, annotated play scripts, prompt books, newspaper clippings, photographs, materials on the art of storytelling and communication, handwritten and typescript copies of lectures for college and the public. The collection also contains a notable section on Jewish history and culture with Aden's own notes, essays, leaflets, pamphlets, and newspaper clippings. Personal papers, such as autobiographical notes, correspondence, publicity photographs and marketing materials, provide great background information and insights into Professor Aden's professional life. The collection also contains photographic slides featuring performing arts actors and writers, including lists of notes to accompany presentations.

Biographical/Historical Note
Estelle Steinberg Aden was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1925. She was a graduate of Brooklyn College in 1947 and earned her Masters in Theatre at Adelphi University, in New York in 1970. During her career, Estelle served as an Adjunct Professor of Speech and Drama at Hofstra University, NY; she also had many Off-Broadway roles and made various television appearances. After retiring at the age of 78, she moved to Gainesville where she took an active role in community education, teaching over 70 courses in theater for the Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) at Oak Hammock and supporting local Holocaust education initiatives. She passed away in Gainesville, Florida on March 21, 2020.
