Biographical/Historical Note

The University of Florida's College of Arts and Sciences had a Department of Speech that held courses in theatre history, appreciation, and actual drama production beginning in 1930. In 1971 the Theatre Department was established in the College of Architecture and Fine Arts. The Department of Theatre was named as such until 2000, when it was renamed to the Department of Theatre and Dance. The Department was renamed to the School of Theatre and Dance in 2004.
