Biographical/Historical Note

Macedonio Fernandez (1874-1952), known by his first name, Macedonio, was an Argentinian writer and poet. After the death of his wife, Macedonio, a lawyer by profession, abandoned conventional living, including custody and care of his children, whom he sent to live with close relatives, to live an austere life. Macedonio was interested in philosophy, thinking, psychology, humour, and writing poetry and short stories. He was not, however, interested in publishing. Jorge Luis Borges, whose father had been friends with Macedonio, established his own friendship with Macedonio, visited him daily, published books about him, and rescued manuscript pages and other items scattered around Macedonio's apartment. Macedonio's son, Adolfo de Obieta, rescued many of his father's papers, and gathered into books for publication, including the publication of Macedonio's novel, Museo de la Novela Eterna.
