Wright v. Board of Public Instruction Records
Scope and Content
The Alachua County School Desegregation Case: Wright v. Board of Public Instruction of Alachua County, was filed on July 2nd, 1964. Previously, the case was before the fifth circuit as a companion case in Singleton v. Jackson Mun. It is one of two Florida school desegregation cases to reach the U.S Supreme Court. The collection spans 1969 to 1978, with the bulk in 1970 (the year of the trial). The collection includes records from before, during, and after the trial. The original of this file is in the National Archives in Morrow, Georgia.
This collection demonstrates the complete process of appeals, rehearing, and case dismissal. It is of particular interest to historians studying the desegregation process through the judicial system.
