Scope and Content

The records are organized into three series groups. Series 1. Business records, is organized chronologically and contains the business records of the company including correspondence, tax bills, receipts, and notices concerning lands in Alachua County and some abstracts for Paynes Prairie these were donated by past President of the company, Barney, R. Colson, Jr. Series 2. Town and City files contains abstracts of titles organized alphabetically by town and city. Series 3. Grant files is arranged alphabetically by land grant.

Biographical/Historical Note

Alachua Country Abstract Company is the oldest firm of its kind for North Central Florida and the Gainesville region. Presidents of company have included Lindon K. Rawlins, William C. Jackson, Barney R. Colson, Sr., and Barney R. Colson, Jr.

Substantial addition organized by town/city and grant, transferred from Jim Powell in January 2025.
