Silver Springs Scrapbooks
Scope and Content
This collection contains scrapbooks and fragments of scrapbooks ranging from the year 1938 to 1962 that track the promotion of Silver Springs as an attraction. The scrapbooks contain news clippings that were published throughout the United States, Cuba and other countries. Created by the publicity department at Silver Springs, the scrapbooks were used to document where articles about the park appeared. Many pages contain dozens of duplicates of the same article. News clippings cover the kinds of attractions that Silver Springs offered and promotions featuring celebrities such as "Miss US 441".
The best of the scrapbooks covers the filming of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings' novel, The Yearling, which was filmed in 1945. There are newspaper photos and interviews with cast and crew. In the scrapbook there are interviews with the director, Clarence Brown, along with the stars of the movie Gregory Peck, Jane Wyman, Claude Jarman Jr., and even Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.
