Faróis de Angola (Lighthouses of Angola) Photograph Album
Scope and Content
Photographs taken in the 1930s and early 1940s of the lighthouses of Angola, a colony of Portugal at the time. The contents of the album are arranged in geographical order, from north to south. The first page has a photograph of two maps of the cost of Angola with the locations of the lighthouses marked on each. Although the majority of the photos show lighthouses, there are also photos of maritime buildings, wharfs, and ports. In addition to the photographs, the album contains typewritten documents describing each lighthouse. These descriptions, written in Portuguese, include information such as the longitude and latitude of the structure, the physical description of the area, dates, and specifications about the lights used and the fabrication of the structure. Although the creator of the album is not identified, it is possible that the album was produced by the Departamento Marítimo de Angola.
The collection is open for research.
