Biographical/Historical Note

Arthur W. Thompson was a professor of history at the University of Florida, member of the Florida Historical Society and editor of the Florida Historical Quarterly. He earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1954 with his dissertation, "David Yulee: A Study of Nineteenth Century American Thought and Enterprise." He was the author of numerous articles and books, including Jacksonian Democracy on the Florida Frontier (University of Florida Press, 1961).
