Scope and Content

Series 153 contains various materials which pertain to the College of Pharmacy at the University of Florida. It is an artificial collection which was compiled by Lea Gene Gramling, a professor of pharmacy. This collection consists of a variety of subjects relating to the College of Pharmacy such as its history, curriculum, pharmacy law in the state of Florida, faculty members, biennial reports, and the medicinal plant garden. Materials include correspondence, reports, some brochures, and two notebooks. Both notebooks belonged to Lea Gene Gramling. One is dated 1930-31 when he was a student and the other is dated 1967 when he had become a professor of pharmacy at the University of Florida.

Materials from Perry Foote were added in 2023; materials are mostly of his talks given at various points through his career.

Biographical/Historical Note

The School of Pharmacy was inaugurated at the beginning of the 1923-1924 session of the University with Dr. Townes R. Leigh as the Director and at that time was a part of the College of Arts and Sciences. The School was established at a time when there was a growing need to establish standards for this profession.
